$25.5 Million Long-Term Bridge Monitoring and Management Project Awarded to Rutgers’ CAIT

Rutgers’ Center for Advanced Infrastructure and Transportation (CAIT) has been awarded a $25.5 million Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) competitive contract for a program that will improve the performance and longevity of bridges and elevated roadways across the United States.

Work done under the FHWA Long-Term Bridge Performance (LTBP) program will expand our knowledge of bridge performance and provide additional insight into how, why, and how fast they deteriorate.

CAIT

The Center for Advanced Infrastructure and Transportation (CAIT) at Rutgers , The State University of New Jersey, is a Research and Innovative Technology Administration (RITA) U.S. Department of Transportation Tier I University Transportation Center (UTC) Program.

The Center has fulfilled the federal mandate with distinction and has far exceeded the requirements of the program. The UTC Tier I designation has enabled us to make transportation a part of Rutgers University’s strategic plan, and attract unprecedented institutional support into transportation, including the new $6.0M CAIT building. The UTC investment in CAIT has proved and will continue to prove successful as the Center becomes an indispensable resource for transportation stakeholders in the New York–New Jersey metropolitan region and the country.
